Privacy Policy
Effective September 14, 2026
The short version. Confidante is an AI companion app. We store your conversations so it can reply and remember, and AI providers process them to write and speak replies. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools. You can export your data, delete conversations, and delete your account in the app at any time.
Who we are
Confidante is made by DTF Port LLC ("we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your data, write to support@neuralmatrix.io.
What we collect
| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Device session | When you open the app we create an anonymous account with a random ID and a random device ID kept in your phone's secure storage. We store your platform (iOS or Android), time zone, and language setting. No name, email, or phone number is needed. |
| What you tell us about yourself | The name you'd like to be called (optional), your preferred tone, the character you chose, its name, and its call voice. |
| Conversations | Your messages and Confidante's replies, the conversation title (taken from your first message), and a topic label a model assigns (for example "work stress"). For calls, we store the transcript of what you said and the reply, not the audio. |
| Memories | When memory is on, short notes Confidante learns about you from your conversations (for example "has an interview on Friday"), with a short quote from the message they came from. |
| Check-ins | When you ask Confidante to check in later: the topic, the time, and your notification settings. If you allow notifications, your device's push token. |
| Sign in with Apple | If you choose to sign in: Apple's user identifier for you and, if you share them, your name and email (which may be an Apple private relay address). |
| Subscription | Your plan, its status, product, and renewal date. Apple processes payments; we never see your card details. |
| Usage | Message counts, call minutes, and AI usage and cost figures, used to apply plan limits and run the service. |
| Consents | Which version of our privacy notice you saw, and your memory setting, with dates. |
| Technical logs | Our server logs each request's method, path (which contains IDs, not content), and status. We don't store IP addresses in our database, though our hosting provider processes them to deliver traffic. |
We don't collect your contacts, location, photos, or advertising identifier, and the app contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting software.
How we use it
- To have conversations with you, including remembering context when memory is on, and to hold live calls.
- To send check-ins you asked for.
- To apply plan limits, process subscriptions, and restore purchases.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to fix problems.
- To improve how Confidante helps people through anonymous scenarios (below).
We don't sell your personal data or share it for advertising.
AI providers
Confidante's replies are written by AI models from Anthropic (Claude). Anthropic receives what's needed for each reply: recent messages in the conversation, relevant memories, your preferred name and tone, your local time, your character, and relevant anonymous scenarios. Anthropic also runs our background tasks: learning memories from conversations, noticing check-in requests, writing check-in messages, labeling conversation topics, and preparing anonymous scenarios.
Live calls use OpenAI. During a call, your voice audio travels directly between your phone and OpenAI, along with brief instructions (your preferred name, language, and character), and OpenAI speaks the reply Claude wrote.
Under these providers' commercial API terms, your conversations are not used to train their models. They may keep API data for a limited period to detect abuse, as their terms describe.
Anonymous scenarios
When someone's memories show a difficulty they raised was later worked out, Anthropic's model writes a short, general scenario: the kind of difficulty, what helped, and roughly how long it took. It must contain no names, places, jobs, dates, quotes, or anything else that could identify anyone. An automated check and a second model review reject anything that could. Nothing is prepared from conversations about self-harm, suicide, or abuse.
These scenarios may be given to Confidante as background when another person faces a similar difficulty, so it can say something like "someone I talked with went through something similar." We keep an internal link from each scenario to the account it came from, only so we can remove it. Scenarios from your account are deleted when you delete your account, choose "Forget everything", or forget a memory they were based on.
Other service providers
- Railway hosts our servers and database.
- RevenueCat manages subscription status. It receives your random account ID and your App Store purchase records.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, in-app payments, and notification delivery.
- Expo relays check-in notifications to Apple. It receives your push token and the notification text ("A note from" your character's name), not the check-in message itself.
- Google runs a connection server your phone contacts when a call starts, which sees your IP address.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or reorganization of our business, with this policy continuing to apply.
How long we keep it
- Without an account: if you don't open the app for 30 days, your anonymous account and everything in it are deleted.
- Signed in: we keep your data until you delete it or your account.
- Deleting a conversation deletes it and its messages. Memories learned from it stay until you forget them.
- Forgetting one memory hides it and keeps a note of it so Confidante doesn't learn it again. Forget everything deletes all memories, those notes, and scenarios from your account.
- Turning memory off stops new memories and stops using them in replies. Existing memories stay until you forget them.
- Deleting your account immediately deletes your account and everything linked to it from our database. Copies can remain in database backups for a limited time before they’re overwritten.
Your choices and rights
In Your space you can see, edit, and forget memories, turn memory off, manage check-ins, delete conversations, export your data, and delete your account. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings and cancel a subscription in your App Store settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the UK, the European Economic Area, or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict some processing. Write to support@neuralmatrix.io and we'll respond within the time the law requires. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), with your consent for memory and check-ins, and for our legitimate interests in keeping the service safe and improving it, including anonymous scenarios.
Sensitive topics
People often talk with Confidante about feelings, relationships, and health. Please don't share passwords, card or bank numbers, or ID numbers; Confidante never needs them. Confidante is not a medical service and not for emergencies.
Children
Confidante is for adults 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child is using it, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Security and transfers
Data travels over encrypted connections, and sign-in tokens are stored only as hashes on our servers. Our servers and providers may be located in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll show the updated notice in the app before you continue.
